– 250 g Zartbitterschokolade (mind. 50 % Kakao)
– Edelnussmischung (sehr gut schmecken Haselnüsse, Mandeln, Cashews und Walnüsse)
– Rosinen
– evtl.: Chiliflocken, grobes Meersalz, Kokosflocken
This Recipe in English
Every year in December, I start thinking about what gifts I’m going to give to my friends and family. Personally, I prefer giving something self-made because this way, you not only give people a present, but also some of your time. Last year, I made the roasted almonds. Everyone was delighted and they were eaten up pretty quickly. So I figured that food is always a nice gift to give someone.
This is why I came up with a self-made chocolate bark, which is actually nothing overly creative or special, but always a nice present. The good thing about it is that you can personalize it as much as you want, adding those ingredients you feel match the person you’re going to give the chocolate bark to. And it’s really easy (and not too expensive) to make. I pack the barks in little plastic bags and decorate them with ribbons and gift cards, which makes them look nice and festive.
Ingredients (for 3-4 medium bags filled with chocolate):
– 250 g dark chocolate (min. 50% cacao)
– nuts mix (almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts and cashews are amongst my favorites)
– raisins
– if you want: chili flakes, coconut flakes, sea salt
Directions:
Melt the chocolate in a bain marie. Meanwhile sort out the pretty nuts and put them aside. Put a sheet of baking paper on your work surface and slowly pour the chocolate onto it so that it spreads out evenly. Put nuts, raisins, chili or coconut flakes on top when the chocolate is still warm. Spices such as fresh rosemary twigs also go very well with the dark chocolate.
Let the chocolate bark dry and harden over night but make sure that the place is not too warm or too cold. Otherwise, the chocolate will turn gray. If it turns gray, don’t worry, that doesn’t mean that it’s bad. All that happed is that the fat and sugar crystallize and make it look gray.
I usually decorate the little bags with ribbons and fir twigs, which looks really nice.
